In the past the design of UAE houses was different than now,  the houses was cooled naturally ,a lot  of houses were not  stone built  they were made out of  palm leaves,  many  houses didn’t have electricity, the only place that had electricity was the mosque, and was cooled by celling fans . People used to sleep in the mosque, Bakhit was one of them. Bakhit used to be an army brigadier, he had a house in Naife, Deira which is known now as Direa gold souq. Bakhit talked about how he missed the old days and how people were living at that time. People used to wake up at dawn, women in the afternoon used to drink Laban and eat dates. Children didn’t attend school in the summer, they attend school in the winter. Then the improvement in technology came were people began to have light bulbs, ceiling fans and television. People who had television, used to put it outside so that their friends and neighbors could enjoy it. There weren’t many hospitals, the only hospital was AL MAKTOOM HOSPITAL.  People at that time used to have a special thing “Community Bond” that in this day is lost.
